Privacy policy

Turner is an iOS EPUB reader operated by Elliot Jackson. Elliot is the data controller for the processing described in this policy, except where a named service controls its own processing. You can contact Elliot at [email protected].

This policy applies to the Turner app. It explains what the app keeps on your device and when another service receives information.

What stays on your device

Turner keeps its core data in the app’s local storage. Depending on how you use Turner, this includes:

Turner does not require an account and has no Turner-run library service or cloud sync. Elliot does not receive your library, highlights, reading activity, or preferences. Turner does not use a separate analytics or crash-reporting SDK. Google may process diagnostics through its advertising SDK as described below.

When information leaves your device

When Turner recognises an active Pro entitlement, it does not show ads or start the advertising consent flow. Turner does not send your books, highlights, or reading history to Google for ad targeting. Google explains how it uses information from apps that use its services.

Providers that process information for Turner must protect it to the standard described in this policy and required by law. A provider’s own policy governs processing that it controls for its own purposes.

Why information is processed

Turner and its providers process information to import and display books, save your reading state, connect to servers you choose, provide subscriptions, show and measure ads, remember privacy choices, prevent fraud, keep services secure, comply with law, and answer privacy requests.

Where UK or EEA data protection law applies, Elliot relies on these legal bases for processing that he controls:

You can withdraw consent at any time. Withdrawal does not affect processing that already took place lawfully. Other providers explain their purposes and legal bases in their own policies.

You do not have to provide personal information to Elliot. Turner cannot connect to a server, complete a purchase, request an ad, or answer a message without the information that action needs.

Your choices and deletion

Google User Messaging Platform, called UMP, asks for consent where required and remembers your choices. UMP may offer choices about personalised ads, measurement, and related purposes. It may also show Apple’s App Tracking Transparency prompt. You can refuse consent, change your choices through Turner’s Privacy Choices option when shown, and change tracking permission in iOS Settings. Google may still show non-personalised or limited ads where its services and applicable law allow.

Elliot does not sell personal information for money. Google’s personalised advertising may count as selling, sharing, or targeted advertising under some US state laws. Where applicable, use Privacy Choices to opt out. Turner will not discriminate against you for using a privacy right.

Local data remains until you remove it. Deleting a book from Turner also deletes its Turner highlights and local book files. Deleting an OPDS server removes its saved details and Keychain password. If cleanup is interrupted, Turner records it and retries.

Deleting Turner through iOS removes its local app data. Offloading the app may preserve its documents and data. Delete OPDS servers in Turner first if you also want their Keychain passwords removed. You can manage or cancel a subscription through your Apple Account.

Apple, RevenueCat, Google, and servers you choose keep their records under their own retention rules and legal duties. Elliot keeps privacy correspondence only as long as needed to answer the request, keep necessary records, or resolve a dispute.

Your rights

Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, correct, delete, restrict, or receive personal information. You may also object to processing or withdraw consent. These rights can have legal limits.

Most Turner data is only on your device, so you control it in the app or through iOS. For information held by Apple, RevenueCat, Google, or an OPDS server, contact that provider. For information controlled by Elliot, email [email protected]. Elliot may ask for enough information to verify and answer your request.

If you are in the UK, you can also make a data protection complaint to the Information Commissioner’s Office.

If you live elsewhere, you may complain to your local data protection authority.

Children, security, and international processing

Turner is a general-audience reading app and is not directed specifically to children. Elliot does not knowingly ask children to submit personal information. Contact Elliot if you believe a child has done so through Turner.

Turner uses iOS app storage, the Keychain, and system network protections. Turner blocks OPDS requests that would send credentials over plain HTTP. No storage or transmission method is completely secure. Protect your device and Apple Account, and use OPDS and download servers you trust.

Apple, RevenueCat, Google, and servers you choose may process information outside your country. Their privacy policies describe their safeguards for international transfers. Turner does not make automated decisions that produce legal or similarly significant effects about you.

Changes and contact

This policy may change when Turner, its providers, or legal requirements change. Turner will update the effective date and, when appropriate, provide notice in the app.
